DS3183 Application Field and Working Principle
DS3183 is a 12-bit CMOS digital-to-analogue converter dedicated for converting digital signals into analogue signals. It utilizes a 12 bit R-2R ladder binary-weighted resistor network together with operational amplifier that is incorporated within the chip itself. This chip is ideal for applications requiring accuracy, fast settling time and low power consumption.
Primarily the DS3183 functions as a signal conditioner for a wide variety of digital signals. It can be used to convert signal from ADCs, DACs and other sensors in the form of 12 bit binary words, BCD words and binary coded decimal/ Gray code words into analogue signal outputs.
The DS3183 chip contains on-chip B75K resistor and an OA amplifier, figure 1, making it ideal for high accuracy, low power conversion. The on chip resistor is used to create a reference voltage to be applied between input terminals. The other difference between the two terminals is the supply voltage which is used for the Twelve bits resistors. When the switches are enabled, current is enabled and become possible to build a 12 bit DAC, based on R2R ladder network.

The DS3183 also offers an offset adjustment in order to clear the output voltages up to 12./24V. The output voltages can be set up in two different configurations; single-ended configuration that outputs a voltage difference and comes with an inverting member for offset and the dual-ended configuration which splits the 0V referenced output voltages in two.
The DS3183 chip is ideal for applications requiring a low amount of power usage and high accuracy. This chip is suitable for applications such as analogue to digital conversion, calibration and instrumentation for different types of process control. However, some of the applications include data acquisition systems, robotic control, communication applications, industrial control systems and more.
