The DS90LV027ATM/NOPB is an integrated transceiver designed to interface between an asynchronous, bidirectional, low voltage, low pin count data bus and differential LVDS (Low Voltage Differential Signalling). It consists of four low voltage data drivers, four low voltage data receivers, and two line termination resistors. This device operates over the extended industrial temperature range of -40°C to +105°C.

Drivers: Each of the four drivers in the device is capable of transmitting data at rates up to 400 Mbps. All four drivers are designed to provide the low jitter operation necessary to meet stringent communication channel operating standards. Each driver features an internal 300Ω resistor. The driver differential outputs are protected from ESD (electrostatic discharge) by diodes to the power supply pins. These diodes also allow for each driver output to be independently powered.

Receivers: The four low voltage receivers on the DS90LV027ATM/NOPB are designed to provide very low bit-error-rate performance by rejecting unwanted noise and providing high data integrity. Each receiver’s outputs are protected from ESD by diodes to the power supply pins.

Transceivers: The differential lines of the device are terminated with a pair of 100 Ω resistors, R1 and R2, to match the characteristic impedance of the LVDS bus. These termination resistors absorb the reflections along the transmission line due to mismatch in theline impedance and parasitic capacitances of the bus. This pair is closely matched to minimize overshoot, undershoot, ringing, and gain compression due to reflections on the bus.

In addition to standard LVDS operation, the DS90LV027ATM/NOPB also has built-in compensation for capacitively loaded transmission lines which is necessary to provide data transmission over longer cables. This compensation is provided by an adjustable receiver equalization circuit designed to optimize data integrity over varying transmission line lengths.

Furthermore, the device provides the ability to configure the receivers into two sets of three channels or a single set of five data channels. All eight pins of the device, contained in a standard but space-saving 24-pin QFN package, are cross-connected while only four pins are used. This device is useful in applications where space or pin count is critical.
