The DS90UB921-Q1EVM is an Evaluation and Demonstration Board used to evaluate and demonstrate the features and capabilities of the DS90UB921-Q1 device. It is a dual-lane inter-integrated circuit frame bus (I²C-BUS) physical layer device that enables high speed interconnectivity between master and slave ICs in sensors, displays, and automotive infotainment systems.
The DS90UB921-Q1EVM supports both single-ended (SE) and differential (DE, DE-2P and DE-4P) termination configurations, allowing users to easily evaluate the performance of the device for specific application requirements. The board also features a built-in configuration switch, allowing users to quickly test the device in different bus configurations. The E-board supports two on-– board LEDs to indicate the presence of I²C bus signals, and two external test points for loopback bus turn-around testing.
The board allows user to evaluate two key parameters that influence the effective speed of a bus system: jitter tolerance and pass-through speed. The jitter tolerance is a measure of the device’s ability to compensate for signal noise and propagation delay that vary with the system clock speed. By testing and verifying the jitter tolerance of the device using a variety of configuration settings, users can determine the maximum clock speed of the system. The pass-through speed is a measure of the device’s ability to reliably transfer data across the bus system with high throughput. By testing and verifying the pass-through speed of the device using different bus configurations, users can determine the optimal configuration to ensure the highest throughput.
The device supports an elegant feature, allowing the user to alternate between single-ended and differential operation by simply providing and releasing a power-on reset signal. This enables a smoother transition from a single-ended to a differential configuration during system initialization. Furthermore, the device also has a number of advanced features such as a built-in configuration shift register, advanced addressing, and time-stamp synchronization capability.
In addition to its design flexibility, the DS90UB921-Q1EVM is also an incredibly reliable device. It’s designed with a hot-swappable 1.5-volt power supply, allowing it to be easily plugged into any car or sensor without the need for a reset.
