Power Factor Correction (PFC) is the process of improving the power efficiency of a system by reducing the energy losses due to voltage, current and harmonic distortions. E-L6562D is an integrated power factor correction PFC with its key features of high switching frequency, high cord load tolerance, high efficiency, low conduction loss, low operating temperature and zero current sensing.
E-L6562D applies in medium or high power applications that require high power factor, such as auxiliary components and power converters. The main application fields of E-L6562D include switch mode power supplies (SMPS), rectifiers, lighting systems, low- and medium-power converters, AC-DC and DC-DC converters, LED drivers and LED lighting systems, welding machines, electronic ballasts, and audio amplifiers.
Its working principle is based on the boost effect used to maintain the given ratio of voltage and current with power factor control (PFC). It is done using a boost converter. At its simplest, a boost converter achieves PFC by monitoring the input voltage and current, and boosting the output voltage to maintain the desired ratio.
The E-L6562D integrated PFC works very similar to an isolated flyback PFC converter. It consists of an input rectification, an input filter, a post-regulator, an internal PFC control loop, and an auxiliary stage for controlling an input current. In order to maintain a desired input power factor, the E-L6562D integrates a power factor corrector that boosts the input voltage and regulates the input current with a post-regulator.
The internal PFC control loop is responsible for regulating the inductor current. It takes into account all the relevant conditions of the system, such as input voltage, input current and load variation, and adjusts the PFC converter output voltage accordingly. This allows the controller to achieve fast transient response, ensuring that the power factor correction is always maintained over the whole range of operating conditions.
The E-L6562D is a very efficient solution for power factor correction, offering high efficiency and low power losses over a wide range of load conditions. It is suitable for a variety of applications due to its wide operating range and high cord load tolerance. Additionally, it comes with in-built safety features including over-voltage, over-current and short-circuit protections. This makes the integrated PFC highly reliable and suitable for long-term applications.
