ECE80US36-SD Application Field and Working Principle The ECE80US36-SD is an AC/DC converter designed for high efficiency, long life and high reliability in fields that require efficient power conversion. The converter utilizes an innovative topology combining the half bridge topology with an isolated AC/DC converter to achieve high efficiency, high reliability and low component count. Different models of the ECE80US36-SD are available with input ranges from 80W to 3.6kW.The transition of transforming AC to DC power is required in many applications such as medical equipment, telecommunications, and data centers. Due to its advanced design, the ECE80US36-SD is suitable for use in many of these applications, where high efficiency, long life and high reliability is required. The ECE80US36-SD can provide a high level of power quality with a near constant output voltage level, even under heavy load conditions.The working principle of the ECE80US36-SD is based on the Half Bridge topology. In this topology, a full-bridge converter and an AC/DC converter composed of an inductor and two diodes is used to convert the input AC power into regulated DC power. The AC/DC converter comprises of two diodes, one with a forward mounted diode and the other with a reverse mounted diode. The two diodes are connected in series and the AC voltage is applied across them. The diode with the forward mounted diode will conduct both during the positive and negative half cycles, thus converting the AC voltage to constant DC voltage.The half bridge converter consists of a pair of MOSFETs connected in a half bridge configuration. When the input AC voltage is applied, the MOSFETs switch alternately, creating a Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) waveform across the MOSFETs. The frequency and amplitude of this PWM waveform can be controlled depending on the load requirement. This PWM waveform is then applied to the inductor, which stores energy in the form of a magnetic field when it is witnessing a current pulse. This stored energy in the inductor is then used to maintain the output voltage when the input AC voltage drops. In this way, the ECE80US36-SD can maintain a constant output voltage in spite of any input AC voltage variations.The ECE80US36-SD also incorporates a feedback loop to control and regulate its output voltage. This is used to adjust or limit the output DC voltage by sensing it through a remote sensing pin. The output voltage can further be regulated by using an external voltage regulator to run the voltage feedback loop.The ECE80US36-SD converter is capable of providing power up to 36kW at an efficiency of 97.452%, which is one of its key features. This high efficiency helps to reduce power losses and ensures a higher system life. Moreover, the ECE80US36-SD features a wide range of protections such as over-voltage, over-temperature, overload, short-circuit, and reverse input voltage protections.
