Optical sensors are increasingly being used in automation and robotics technologies due to their accurate and reliable operation. The EE-SX384 slot type, logic output photointerrupter is designed for use in automated optical applications.

The EE-SX384 consists of an infrared emitting diode (IRED) and phototransistor housed side by side within a plastic slot. When an object passes through the slot a pulse waveform is created that accurately triggers a logic output signal. This output signal can then be used to measure the amount of light being received.

In operation, the EE-SX384 IRED and phototransistor are wired in parallel to a common collector circuit. When an object passes between the diode and the phototransistor, the phototransistor detects the changing voltage level and sends an output signal to the signal conditioning circuit. The EE-SX384 is used primarily in automated optical applications, such as automated assembly systems and material handling systems.
