Optical Sensors are electronic components that detect and respond to light within a specific wavelength. Photointerrupters are one type of optical sensor that uses a light-sensitive element and a trigger photodetector in order to create a digital signal when a light source of a particular wavelength is interrupted. Slot Type photointerrupters are designed to detect the presence or absence of an object by detecting the interrupt of a beam of light. The SF2-EH56-N is an example of a slot type photointerrupter.

The SF2-EH56-N is an integrated optical module consisting of a light-emitting source and a trigger photo detector, working together in an IC chip package. The light-emitting source is a High-Output LED while the trigger photodetector is a high breakdown voltage photodiode. A built-in Zero-Cross function allows the system to detect and accurately sense the direction of an object even when they are moving in very slow speed. Furthermore, the SF2-EH56-N features a short switching time (<10 µs, max) for improved accuracy, reliability, and response time.
