EE-SX472P Application Field and Working PrincipleOptical sensors, such as EE-SX472P, are widely used in automation fields including production lines, robotic arms, marketing terminals, security systems and toys detection. EE-SX472P is a series of photointerrupters which are further classified as slot-type with logic output.The EE-SX472P photointerrupter consists of an infrared emitting light source and a two-channel photodetector. These two components are separated from each other at a precise distance so as to form an infrared sensing slot. An interrupted infrared light will then be received by the photodetector.The detection slot of an EE-SX472P is usually rectangular and comes with either 0.2 or 0.4 mm depth. Its detection distance can range from 1 mm to 6 mm, providing a great range of applications. The device operates at 5 VDC power supply and features a current consumption of 0.3 mA in turn-on condition as well as 100 μA in turn-off condition.When EE-SX472P photointerrupters are activated, an opto-coupler formed by a light link and a phototransistor is triggered. This opto-coupler is usually in the form of two channels connected in series, one on the front generating a logic level output in response to an LED light signal received, and the other at the back turning on a reverse LED in response to the detected phenomena. Both the front and back channels receive signals in reverse.
