Optoisolators have been used for a wide variety of digital, analog, and industrial applications since their introduction over four decades ago. They are known as isolators, optically coupled isolators, optical isolators, or optical–electrical isolators. The ELM3022 are common optoisolators with triac, SCR output, often used for high voltage ac switching applications.
The ELM3022 optoisolator is a three terminal device consisting of a GaAs infrared LED optically coupled to a silicon bilateral triac switch. The device will switch .25 Amperes AC current at 250Volt AC/DC. ELM3022 optoisolators have a peak blocking voltage of 600Vrms and repetition rate of 400Hz.
