Working Principle

The EN12-VS11AF18 consists of a LED light source, a light shutter disc, and an integrated circuit. The shutter disc is placed on the rotating motor shaft and rotates together with it. Attached with the shutter disc is a code wheel, which features several opaque and transparent sectors. The transparent sectors on the code wheel correspond to the light source, causing the light to pass through and be detected by the IC. The IC then converts the respective light signals into digital electrical signals. By counting the number of pulses, the IC is able to deduce the motion of the shaft, which is then used for motion control, speed control and position setting applications.
