DC DC Converters

DC-DC converters are devices that convert a DC voltage from an input source to a different DC voltage level. They are widely used in different applications: automotive, photoelectrics, regulate solar cells, medical and power semiconductor devices, among many other. One of the most popular DC-DC converters is the series mode EP2320-9R converter.The EP2320-9R converts an input voltage of 20-95V DC to a regulated 24V output at 8A. It is designed with full automatic protections like overload, short circuit, overvoltage and over temperature. This converter is designed for rugged applications, with a low profile and a wide operating temperature range (-25 to +70 degrees Celsius). The output voltage and current are adjustable by using two external potentiometers. The EP2320-9R operates in series mode and features an input diode, an army of six power MOSFET transistors, a PFC or pulse frequency control circuit, output LC filter, PWM control and current feedback. The PFC circuit helps to reduce ripple and variation to the input current. This helps maximize the efficiency of the converter. The output of the PFC circuit is connected to the gate of the MOSFETs. When the gate is high, current passes through them and the input voltage is converted to a higher voltage. The current feedback is used to control the pulse width of the gate voltage. When the current reaches the set value that the control circuit has determined, the MOSFETs will turn off in order to reduce peak current. The series mode configuration is ideal for applications requiring high input voltages and requiring high output currents. This converter is used in a wide variety of applications such as powering pumps and motors, instrumentation systems, communication and industrial control devices. The EP2320-9R is an efficient and cost-effective DC-DC power solution for applications that require a wide input voltage and a regulated 24VDC output. It features an adjustable output voltage and current and a wide operating temperature range.
