EPM3128ATC100-7 is a commercial embedded-EPLD—a type of Complex Programmable Logic Device (CPLD) designed to meet the needs of cost-sensitive, power-sensitive, or high-density applications. EPM3128ATC100-7 utilizes a register-based architecture which makes it one of the most versatile and scalable CPLD devices on the market. Application Field

EPM3128ATC100-7 is suited for a variety of applications in today\'s embedded systems such as MP6/9 pipelines, controllers, a/d converters, telephone systems, security cameras, electrical motor control, and can be used as a stand-alone component or coupled with a microcontroller. Various configurations of the EPM3128ATC are open to being used with watchdog timers, PLL, EPROM, EEPROM, and SRAM.

Working Principle

The EPM3128ATC100-7 is built on a unique register-based design, allowing it to serve as a bridge between a microcontroller and external devices. Each device includes multiple cell banks that are individually optimized for the best performance for their specific application. Each EPM3128ATC100-7 contains six levels of interconnect to allow for fast data transfer between cell banks and devices connected to it.The configuration process for the device is a two-step process that begins with defining the logic cells. This is done through the programming of the device’s FPGA logic cells. Once the logic cells are defined, the programmable logic cells then define their own I/O connections throughout the device. By programming the logic cells, the EPM3128ATC100-7 can be made to act as numerous types of commonly used integrated circuits.The EPM3128ATC100-7 can also be used to program or set predefined values as part of doing a boot up-type configuration process. This is done by setting up an initial configuration into the device’s configuration register. This register is then used to configure the FPGA logic cells on the device. Once the initial configuration is complete, the device is ready for operation.In addition to the FPGA logic cell and configuration register programming, the EPM3128ATC100-7 also allows for device configuration and monitoring through a serial-I/O interface. This interface can be used to configure specific devices within the EPM3128ATC100-7, select and store values from external memory devices, connect devices to additional I/O ports, and track the progress of the device’s operation.The EPM3128ATC100-7 is a very flexible and powerful device capable of controlling a variety of devices and performing numerous operations. Its FPGA logic cells and serial-I/O interface make the EPM3128ATC100-7 an ideal choice for cost-sensitive or power-sensitive, or high-density applications.
