An EPM3256AFC256-10 chip consists of 10-input look-up tables (LUTs) and flip-flops, organized into eight arrays with 32 LUTs and eight flip-flops for each array. The 10-input LUT takes up to 10 input signals as input and outputs one function we want. This function can be either combinational logic or registered output. Flip-flops in each array, when coupled with a LUT, can be used to create a 2-state LUT, which can implement a counter, a shift register, or a multi-bit registered synchronous logic. The input signals are connected to these LUTs/FFs via 32 or 48 I/O pins.

EPM3256AFC256-10 chip can be configured by storing data onto its non-volatile on-chip cells via JTAG. Configuration data is loaded onto the device when the power supply is turned on.
