These include a main transformer, an air gap, a pair of miniature electrolytic capacitors to reduce both r.f. (radio frequency) and EMI (electromagnetic interference) noise, and an inductor (L) to set the inductive energy response curve. The motion of the centrally pivoted core controls the output voltage by controlling the magnitude of current it can handle. This control is also maintained by the two windings: a primary winding (P) and a secondary winding (S).When the center tap of the inductor is connected to the input source, the primary winding produces a magnetic field. This creates an opposing magnetic field in the secondary winding and a voltage is generated. As the input source voltage increases, the magnetic field also increases, resulting in a higher voltage output from the secondary winding. The voltage output from the secondary winding is regulated by the position of the pivot inside the winding. When the input source voltage increases, the pivot arm moves and allows for more current, thus increasing output voltage. Conversely, when the input source voltage decreases, the opposite is true: the pivot arm moves back and current is reduced, thus decreasing the output voltage.In conclusion, the ER1840-33JM is a three-terminal device that can effectively filter out interference and/or noise in systems that require high signal integrity.
