EZ6303QI is a current-mode, step-down-type, non-synchronous DC/DCcontroller. It requires only external power switches and supporting components for complete switched power supply design. It can constrain a current in the external power switch to 100mA for the system stand-by status. It features low startup current, fast transient response and high accuracy output voltage regulation. The overload protection, short circuit protection and over temperature protection are all integrated for added safety.

EZ6303QI can be used in a variety of applications, including consumer electronics, computer, gaming and industrial control. Common applications including but not limited to wireless routers, set-top boxes, VoIP adapters, robotic arms and machine vision systems. It can also be used to design intelligent power management systems, such as to automatically shut down the module when the battery voltage is too low.

The EZ6303QI working principle is based on a main switch, usually a MOSFET, in series with the input voltage. The current mirroer, composed of the MOSFET, diode, Clock oscillator and current sense resistor, controls the magnitude of the current flowing in the main switch. The voltage feedback path monitors the output voltage and adjusts the duty cycle of the main switch for regulation. The Error Amplifier compares the output voltage with the reference voltage and signals the Current Mirror to turn on and off, thus closing the control loop. The voltage loop is composed of the Error Amplifier, sawtooth Oscillator and Level Shift. The Voltage loop adjusts the duty cycle of the main switch to adjust the output voltage.

When the input voltage is higher than the feedback voltage, the Error Amplifier output increases, turning on the Current Mirror and allowing the main switch to turn on, which allows current to flow from the input to the output. When the Current Mirror senses a voltage drop across the current sense resistor, it then turns off and the switch is opened again. This process continues, so that the output voltage is controlled to the required level.

EZ6303QI is also equipped with advanced protection features. Over Voltage protection is provided by monitoring the output voltage and turning off the main switch if it exceeds a set limit. Short-circuit protection prevents current from flowing to the output, so that the system is kept safe in the event of a short circuit. Over temperature protection helps protect the system by turning off the main switch if the temperature exceeds a certain level.
