The FAN1540DX synchronous step-down regulator consists of an internal PWM controller, two external power MOSFETs, a current setting resistor, and two external compensation components. When an input voltage is applied at the input of the regulator, the internal PWM controller senses the input voltage, generates a pulse-width modulation (PWM) signal, and provides it to the gate of the synchronous power MOSFETs through the driver. The MOSFETs turn on and off in response to the PWM signal, allowing only a certain portion of the input voltage to pass through. The duty cycle of the PWM signal is determined by the feedback voltage at the output of the regulator. The input voltage is reduced by the RMS ripple current from the synchronous MOSFETs.The output voltage is regulated by comparator circuitry, which compares the feedback voltage to the reference voltage.
