The FAN8303MX is a high-efficiency DC-DC step-down controller integrated with low-side MOSFET and protection circuits, making it suitable for a wide range of applications. To meet the demand for highly efficient and power-dense designs, this IC is presented in a 5x6x0.8mm leadless package (CSP) that can work over a wide input voltage range of 4.5V to 40V. It is capable of delivering output current up to 3.2A and has a maximum duty cycle of 95%.

The primary applications of the FAN8303MX are portable communications equipments, gaming systems, digital power supplies, battery management, cloud computing, office automation, and automotive applications. This IC also delivers high performance in a variety of other applications, including adaptive or morphing power supplies, green/energy saving products such as LED lighting, as well as motor speed/position control. With its small footprint, the FAN8303MX offers designers a high-efficiency alternative for space-constrained applications.

The FAN8303MX is powered by the patented Voltage Mode Control (VMC) technique. This technique provides fast transient response, excellent line/load regulation, and outputs with low ripple and low noise. The controller also utilizes a programmable frequency PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) mode, which allows for easy frequency synchronization between multiple regulating devices. To protect the output voltage and prevent overtemperature, the IC includes overcurrent protection (OCP), as well as an overtemperature shutdown/hiccup feature. There is also an adjustable Soft Start feature to minimize inrush current during system power- On.

Additionally, when the system is in Over Voltage Protection (OVP) or Under Voltage Protection (UVP) mode, the IC enters shutdown and disconnects from the output, providing full protection of the system during these conditions. Lastly, the device is also equipped with an open-loop detection function, which detects the breakdown of an external PWM signal. With all of these features and the low start-up current of the IC, the FAN8303MX is an ideal candidate for DC-DC applications.
