The FEB219 application field and working principles are quite comprehensive and depend largely on the particular use for the device. This evaluation board includes DC/DC and AC/DC (off-line) SMPS components.The DC/DC SMPS section of the board is designed to demonstrate applications using a controlled switching power supply. This part of the board includes a full-bridge type power MOSFET, controlled by a voltage mode pulse width modulation (PWM) control IC. The voltage mode PWM control IC is used to switch the current from the transformer’s primary side to the secondary side. The driver IC is used to switch the output voltage of the SMPS to the desired level, while the input voltage is managed by a linear regulator.The AC/DC (off-line) SMPS section of the board is responsible for providing power to the entire evaluation board. This part of the board utilizes a power MOSFET operating as a synchronous rectifier and controlled by a voltage mode PWM control IC. The same control IC used for the DC/DC SMPS is also used in this section. An opto-isolator is included to provide a galvanic isolator between the primary (transformer) and secondary side.The load current is controlled by a current limit circuit which stands between the MOSFET switch and the rectifier. This circuit allows for a constant current load, regardless of line voltage fluctuations. A temperature compensating controller is used to keep the load temperature within safe levels.The output voltage of the board is adjustable via a potentiometer. This allows for either a high-voltage operation or a low-voltage operation, depending on the application. The board also includes overvoltage and overload protection circuits; in case of a power spike or short, these circuits will shut down the power supply until it is manually reset.Overall, the FEB219 evaluation board is a great tool for demonstrating and testing a variety of power applications. It is an all-in-one solution for DC/DC and AC/DC (off-line) SMPS applications, with features such as current limit control, overvoltage protection, overload protection, and temperature compensating controller. The board includes a wide range of components and can easily be reconfigured for different power usage scenarios.
