The FEMTOSMDC035F-2 is a High Energy Value, UL248-14, UL/IEC 62368-1, and EN1414 approved PTC resettable fuse suitable for most higher wattage consumer applications. It finds applications ranging from AC/DC to LED lighting, computing, and home entertainment. It helps in protection from over-current, over-temperature, and short circuit faults in the circuit.
The FEMTOSMDC035F-2 offers a programmable temperature rise from 85°C to 125°C with a maximum resistance range from 0.003-0.1 ohms. It offers thermal stability, fast resetting, wide current range and pulse capability up to 6A. It helps in protection from over-current (tripping range 6-36A) and over-temperature (tripping range 125-165°C). It can be easily mounted onto PCB by soldering or dip mounting.
The working principle of the FEMTOSMDC035F-2 is based on Polymeric Positive Temperature Coefficient (PPTC). The Polymeric material, Polyethylene, is chosen to be used as the resettable fuse material. It exhibits a progressively increasing resistance with temperature. At normal ambient temperatures, the resistance of Polyethylene is very low, hence allowing the current to flow through the device. When the temperature increases, due to passing of higher than normal current, the resistance of the Polyethylene increases too providing effective protection.
The FEMTOSMDC035F-2 uses Thermal Fuse, which provides protection by tripping at an over-current condition, thus providing additional safety. The Thermal Fuse helps in providing protection from an over-temperature condition, allowing the device to cool down before resetting. With the combination of Thermal Fuse and Polymeric material, the FEMTOSMDC035F-2 provides protection from both over-temperature and over-current faults.
As compared to traditional fuses, the FEMTOSMDC035F-2 can automatically reset during normal conditions.
