Electric Double Layer Capacitors (EDLC)

FGH0V474ZF electric double layer capacitors, usually known as EDLCs or supercapacitors, are high-capacity, energy storage units that combine the attributes of conventional capacitors and batteries in a single package. They have a wide range of uses in industrial, electrical, and automotive applications, including as a backup power source, as a starting aid for internal combustion engines, and for energy harvesting.EDLCs are unique because they can store a large amount of energy, have high power delivery, and long service life compared to conventional capacitors. EDLCs are composed of two plates separated by an electrolyte and have an extremely high-capacity to store energy. The two active ingredients of the capacitor, the electrolyte and the electrodes, react when a small voltage is applied, creating an electric double layer, hence their name.This electric double layer allows EDLCs to store and release a large amount of charge quickly. The larger the plate surface area of the EDLC, the higher the capacitance value and vice versa. With large surface area plates, EDLCs can reach far higher capacitance values than other types of capacitors.In addition, the energy storage in EDLCs is highly reversible; thanks to the double layer, the energy stored in the device is quickly restored when the circuit is connected again. This is why EDLCs are so well-suited for applications such as providing short-term energy storage for back-up power or energy harvesting.

Supercapacitors
