FL663MX is a high-current, constant-current LED driver IC from STMicroelectronics. It is a low-voltage/low-power, highly integrated, dedicated solution for small powering of LED networks (up to 20 LEDs). The chip is equipped with high protection set, fail-safe soft dimming, advanced diagnostics and an I2C interface for a high degree of customization. It supports an extremely wide range of LED driving and current matching flexibility across multiple LED strings, allowing for a wide range of lighting effects.
Working Principle
The FL663MX LED driver is controlled by the I2C interface. It provides an integrated set of protections such as over-voltage, over-temperature and open LED failures management. For fail-safe soft dimming, a unique analog-controlling technique for non-significant strings reduction is used. This allows for smooth, glitch-less illumination level transitions. The chip also supports advanced diagnostic features, such as for example reporting of over-temperature, open LED and over-current events. It can accurately detect the status of LEDs and provide feedback to the controller in order to improve the end product\'s reliability.
Apart from the fail-safe soft dimming and I2C control, the chip also supports an analog mode of driving and manual current setting. In this configuration, a dedicated current setting pin is used to set the required current level. This helps simplify the design process, since the current setting is done outside the microcontroller.
