The FME-220A belongs to the diode array family of rectifiers often utilized in direct current (DC) applications. It is a fast switching device ideally suited for power conversion systems that require efficient rectification and conversion of AC power to DC that is then dispatched to downstream circuits. Some common applications of this device are pulsed circuits, switched mode power supplies (SMPS), PWM output circuits, and other general rectification applications. This device is rugged and reliable, and due to its low power loss and package type, can be used in applications requiring higher power output.
The FME-220A rectifier is constructed using two tiny rectangular devices, each packed with hundreds of diodes. It is made up of approximately 220 individual, integral diodes in a single package, with separate diodes for each input and output. The diodes are arranged in a zener circuit configuration, allowing the individual diodes to be operated in parallel and receive direct current. This arrangement offers the advantage of allowing for equal mask distribution of the current, resulting in a much higher current and power supply capability than with a single diode.
The FME-220A works on the principle of “zero crossing” rectification. As an AC signal passes through zero volts (at a peak or trough – depending on the signal being rectified), the diodes in the FME-220A all become forward biased. The signal then passes through the device, is rectified and a DC signal is produced in which the diode is either forward biased or reversed biased. This process is repeated continually, with the direction of the rectified signal changing as the input sine wave passes through zero volts.
The FME-220A rectifier provides superior protection against power transients by its advanced electrical characteristics. It is capable of generating fast switching action, with forward voltages of up to 625V, a leakage current of 200mA, and a reverse leakage current of 10mA. It also features an excellent efficiency, with a low harmonic distortion rating of 5%.
The FME-220A has a broad range of packages and pinouts to accommodate the needs of different applications. It is available in the classic DIP package type, the DLP package type and the TO-18 package type, among other standard packages. It is also available in several pin configurations and can be used as either a PCB or a modular component, offering greater flexibility in circuit assembly and implementation.
In summary, the FME-220A is an excellent high voltage, high current diode array rectifier well suited for applications that require efficient rectification and direct current conversion. Due to its design and wide range of packages, the FME-220A is an ideal choice for power conversion systems and other general rectification applications.
