Diodes, rectifiers and arrays are all important components in electrical circuits. The FMU-24R is an Integrated Schottky Rectifier Array with 24 diodes. It is a three-phase bridge rectifier, meaning that is it capable of converting both alternating current AC and direct current DC into a unidirectional voltage or current. The FMU-24R is composed of a wide variety of components. Starting from the left, the main components include twenty-fourSchottky diodes paralleled to form six rectifiers, a PFM (zero voltage switching) circuit, two temperature sensor channels, a filter resistor, and two temperature sensors for protection. These six rectifiers are used to convert AC voltage or current into DC voltage or current. This creates a rectified waveform consisting of one or several half-cycles of the AC waveform. At the output, filtered DC voltage will emerge because the pulsating currents of the rectified waveform were smoothed by the filter resistor.
The unified zero voltage switching (PFM) circuit circuit is an integrated circuit that is capable of controlling power flow and regulating power according to different load conditions. It does so be intelligently switching the Schottky diodes on and off via a predetermined duty-cycle of its own output voltage, PFM. This duty cycle is based on the sensed temperature of the circuit, the sensed ambient temperature and the sensed AC voltage. By intelligently controlling power flow, PFM reduces input current ripple and reduces voltage spikes. Moreover, PFM can provide pre-charged output voltage, enabling soft-start capability in the power supply.
The FMU-24R has further features built in, including temperature protection and current monitoring. Built into each rectifier are two temperature sensor channels to measure the temperature of the device, as well as two temperature sensors for external monitoring. The temperature sensor channels send out an alarm if the device gets too warm, allowing for automated shuts down of the circuit in case of excessive current. They also allow for current monitoring, which can be used to prevent shorts by ensuring that the current stays at a safe level.
