FN3600021 working principle

The FN3600021 is based on the fundamental Colpitts Oscillator circuit architecture, which uses a pair of capacitors and an inductor to form a tuned LC parallel/serial circuit to provide the frequency-determining element, together with the gain of the active amplifier (usually a bipolar transistor) to form an oscillator. The circuit is designed to oscillate at a desired frequency in response to a DC control voltage applied to the input terminals, thus forming a voltage controlled oscillator. The frequency of oscillation increases in response to an increase in the control voltage.

The FN3600021 has a buffer input stage which uses an NPN transistor to provide basic amplification and drive to the oscillator circuit. The oscillator is formed around an NPN bipolar transistor drive by two capacitors and a tuned LC resonant circuit.
