Thus, the diode provides a low voltage drop for the load in the circuit.

The power module also offers protection from short circuit and overvoltage conditions. If the load current is greater than the IGBT current rating, the IGBT will shut off. Similarly, if the input voltage is higher than the rated voltage, the IGBT will shut off.
