RF Directional Couplers are devices used to couple power signals from one circuit to another without triggering any undesired electrical interaction. FPC06700 is a broadband bi-directional RF Directional Coupler. It’s designed to couple signals from two ends of a coaxial line with minimal insertion or return loss. This RF Direction Coupler thus provides a convenient method of distributing signal power and RF energy in two directions for a variety of applications.

The FPC06700 uses the principal of reactive coupling to create the desired outcome from a directional coupler. This device includes two sets of reactive components carefully matched for their nearest frequency. These are designed for broadband operation. The unmatched portions of the reactance can be treated as a suitable load for the signal. The resulting complex signal is what forms the modulation of the effective coupling factor of the coupler.

The FPC06700 has a broad range of applications in both analog and digital wireless communication systems. It is used in power amplifiers to measure load impedance by monitoring the impedance of the output of the amplifier, as well as to couple signals into a temporary antenna. Additionally, the FPC06700 is used in cellular base stations to transmit and receive signals from multiple users on the same frequency band. It is also used in medical applications such as medical imaging and ultrasound systems where the coupler is used to measure, monitor and maintain the output signal of the device to ensure that the system is operating properly and that the output signal is of the correct amplitude that is required for the medical imaging or ultrasound system.

The FPC06700 provides stability and reliability in all its operations. It is suitable for an operating temperature range between 0°C to 70°C and operates in a wide range of frequencies between 200MHz and 2.2GHz. For a three-port device, the coupler can achieve a wide bandwidth with an insertion loss of less than 0.5dB. The device also delivers an excellent return loss of more than 25dB and its VSWR is kept below 1.6.

The working principle of the FPC06700 is based on a two-port principle where RF signals from one port are coupled to the other port without any direct connection. This is achieved by reactance coupling. The reactance denotes the opposition of a conductor to the flow of current resulting from a change in the potential difference between the two terminals without discontinuing the current. The reactance of the two ports are matched at relatively high frequencies for the purpose of bi-directional operation. The coupling effectively couples the flow of power between the two terminals while providing a significant amount of isolations from other sources of interference or signals both external and internal.

The FPC06700 is an ideal RF Directional Coupler for a wide range of applications due to its low insertion and return loss. It operates over a wide range of frequencies and offers excellent signal quality and stability.
