The FSQ311L is a highly integrated flyback offline switcher designed to operate in a universal AC to DC switching power supplies. It is designed to meet the requirements of a multitude of applications such as VoIP, WLAN, power adapters, lighting systems, and many more. The FSQ311L is filled with features such latest topology, integrated power MOSFETs, and an advanced microprocessor control architecture.

FSQ311L Application Field

The FSQ311L adds flexibility to the offline switcher design. It contains features such as controlled turn-on slew rate, adjustable soft-start times, built-in output overvoltage protection and overtemperature protection. Its four operating modes, Daisy-Chain operation and fast transient response also make it suitable for a wide range of application from standalone converters to complex multiple output powered converters. It is able to meet the standards of high performance, reliable and cost-effective power supply. The FSQ311L is ideal for VoIP and WLAN applications. It has the ability to monitor telecommunications industry specific PCM and AMP control signals to detect the presence of a VoIP line card, so power can be removed when the line is not in use, resulting in significant reduction in power consumption. In WLAN applications, the FSQ311L maintains several core power requirements such as power-down sequences and wake-on-line (WOL) detection, while still providing excellent performance.

FSQ311L Working Principle

The FSQ311L adopts a standard flyback topology and its operating principle is based on primary-side regulation (PSR). PSR eliminates the need for optocouplers and auxiliary control circuitry, and thus saving cost and the space of the design. By using the primary-based technique, this IC automatically centers the operating point of the power MOSFET, insuring an active and resistive load, providing good line and load regulation.The FSQ311L integrates four main blocks including PWM control, error comparator, gate drivers, and Power MOSFETs. The PWM control block includes oscillator, duty cycle calculation, and timing circuits. It uses hysteretic pulse-width modulation (PWM) to control the primary switching action. Also, it has an adjustable dead time control to improve the power conversion efficiency by minimizing the switching losses.The second block is the error comparator. The block compares the input of an error amplifier with a programmable reference voltage and provides the control signal voltage to the PWM control block. The comparator is designed with high gain and short response time to overcome output voltage deviation when the load is changed.The third block consists of two gate drivers. The gate drivers supply the necessary gate current to the Power MOSFETs to turn them on/off as needed to regulate the output voltage. Finally, the fourth block is the Power MOSFETs. It is in charge of the power transfer from primary side to the secondary side and control the magnitude of the output voltage.In conclusion, the FSQ311L is well-suited for AC/DC offline switcher applications.
