Electrical, Specialty Fuses are products designed to protect circuits against destructive over-currents. They break the circuit when an over-current is detected. FWPQ-450A is a kind of Electrical, Specialty Fuses. This paper is intended to understand the application field and working principle of FWPQ-450A.
The application field of FWPQ-450A can generally be divided into three categories, which are semiconductor protection, triggered protection and power supply protection. In semiconductor protection, FWPQ-450A plays an important role in protecting the collector-emitter junction from short-circuit currents or temperature over-currents at the output stage of the semiconductor. The triggered protection role of FWPQ-450A is mainly suitable for switching power supply with more sensitive applications such as voltage overshoot protection, surge current protection, EMC disturbance, rapid on-off protection, etc. In the power supply protection, FWPQ-450A works to provide over-current protection for power supply module, thereby decreasing the risk of system damage due to strong electric current.
As for the working principle of FWPQ-450A, it mainly utilizes the PTC thermistor to cut off the circuit when the current reaches the fuse\'s rated current. The PTC thermistor comprises of a conductive portion and a voltage-sensitive resistor which is termed as Depletion Region layer. When the normal working current passes through the PTC thermistor, the PTC thermistor will reset to its normal state and maintain the electric current. When the current reaches the rated current of the fuse, the Depletion Region layer will enlarge in order to limit the current, and reduces the voltage-drop across the PTC thermistor. Hence, the fuse is triggered and the circuit will be cut off.
In summary, FWPQ-450A is an Electrical, Specialty Fuses product, and its application field mainly consists of semiconductor protection, triggered protection and power supply protection. The working principle of FWPQ-450A is based on the PTC thermistor, and its Depletion Region layer fluctuates according to the changing current in order to reduce the voltage across the PTC thermistor and make the fuse work.
