The bridge rectifier works by allowing only the carrier wave which is heading in the proper direction to flow, while blocking the reverse wave from conducting. As the alternate half cycles of the AC current continuously rearange the polarity of the input voltage, the diode bridge will convert the alternating current to a unidirectional direct current.
