Diodes are semiconductor devices which allow electricity to flow through them in only one direction. Bridge rectifiers, specifically the GBPC2502 T0G, are a type of diode made for rectifying alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC). A bridge rectifier has four diodes arranged in an outward ‘H’ shape with two end points to insert an AC voltage, the input, and two opposite point to receive the rectified output DC voltage. A bridge rectifier’s working principle is simple; when the alternating current passes through the input of the bridge, the two diodes at the left and right of the circuit hinders the positive half cycle and allows the negative half cycle to pass through and connect to the positive output pin and the negative half cycle is blocked and the current is sent to the negative output pin.

One of the most common uses of the GBPC2502 T0G bridge rectifier is in power supply circuit design. In this application, the AC voltage is first converted to DC voltage using a rectification circuit which consists of the bridge rectifier. The DC voltage is then filtered using inductor, capacitor and resistor networks for smooth, consistent voltage output. The input can be anywhere from 6V to 1000V AC and the output is equal to the peak of the AC input voltage minus the forward drop across the diode.

Voltage regulation is another common application of the GBPC2502 T0G bridge rectifier. This rectifier is used to reduce AC voltage to a safe DC level, as in the case of a buggy low voltage indicator. An AC-DC converter is commonly regulated by bridge rectifier to ensure that the voltage between the AC source and the DC load is constant. This rectifier helps to regulate the current between two sources, thus making sure that the output power remains at a constant level and there is no sudden drop or rise in voltage.
The GBPC2502 T0G bridge rectifier is also extensively used for charging batteries.
