GBU4M-E3/45 bridge rectifiers are used mainly in applications that require a DC output source, such as data center servers, converters, and battery charging systems. The bridge rectifier works on the principle of rectification which is the process of converting alternating current (AC), which reverses its direction periodically, into direct current (DC), which maintains one direction only.When AC voltage is applied at the two AC lines (Inputs), each diode will conduct with a forward bias in the direction shown, resulting in a push-pull type of action. During the positive half cycle of the applied AC voltage, diodes D2 and D3 become forward-biased and therefore act as low-resistance paths for current flow. As a result, current flows from the supply lines, through the diodes D1 and D4, then to the load. To return, the current has to flow through D2 and D3, completing the loop. The same process occurs during the negative half-cycle, resulting in the net flow of DC current through the load.The major advantage of bridge rectifiers is its capability to provide full-wave rectification even with a single phase input.
