GP1S58V Application Field and Working Principle

GP1S58V Photointerrupters are Transistor output slot type Optical Sensors. They are tiny, low-cost devices designed for use in a wide range of automatic circuit control systems such as photocopiers, document scanners, coin sorters, vending machines, automotive lighting systems, and safety systems. They are applied in the field of industrial automation, signal detection, machine vision, etc.

GP1S58V Photointerrupter mainly consists of an optical detector and an emitter, both isolated from each other and supported by a plastic housing. The optical detector is composed of two sections, namely the “Internal Detector” and the “External Detector”. The Internal Detector is a small chip that detects the light emitted by the emitter and the light reflected from the interruption, while the External Detector is a slab of plastic material which amplifies the signal and feeds it to the infrared photodiode.

GP1S58V Photointerrupter’s working principle is based on the use of an optical interrupting technique which is basically a modulation effect on the output of the internal detector. When the internal detector receives the light reflected from the interruption, it generates an electrical signal which is then fed to the optical diode. The output of the diode is, in turn, amplified and fed to the Transistor Output terminal of the GP1S58V Photointerrupter.

GP1S58V Photointerrupters are also known as edge type optical sensors. They are designed to detect the interruption of an invisible light beam passing through a small orifice or slit. When the light beam is interrupted, the circuit is activated and the output of the angle type optical sensor will be switched from low to high.
