GS-8S Proximity Sensors

The GS-8S is a type of proximity sensor that is manufactured by STMicroelectronics. It is a single-axis short range digital magnetic field sensor designed to detect the presence or absence of ferromagnetic objects. The GS-8S can detect objects within a distance of 15mm, and is capable of detecting objects with a magnetic moment greater than 20mT. The main advantages of the GS-8S sensor are its integrated amplifier and digital filter, which enable the user to quickly and accurately detect the presence or absence of an object. Additionally, the sensor is capable of operating in both power-saving idle and active modes.

Applications

Working Principle

The GS-8S proximity sensor uses a magnetic sensing principle to detect the presence of ferromagnetic objects. When the sensor is placed near a ferromagnetic object, the magnetic field of the object causes the sensor to produce a small amount of electrical energy. This energy is then amplified and processed by the sensor\'s integrated amplifier and digital filter. The signal is then compared to a preset threshold. If the signal is greater than the threshold, the sensor will activate the output and transmit a signal. If the signal is lower than the threshold, the sensor will remain in an idle state until it detects another object.
