Motion sensors are an important component in many types of technology and are employed in applications ranging from personal mobile devices and robotics to satellites and self-driving cars. One type of motion sensor is the gyroscope, which measures the angular rate of rotation in three directions simultaneously. The GYPRO2300 is an advanced, tri-axial gyroscope developed by Systron Donner Inertial that is designed for embedded applications and offers high-accuracy motion detection in the presence of vibration and extreme temperatures. In this article, we will discuss the application fields and working principles of the GYPRO2300.

Application Field of GYPRO2300

The GYPRO2300 is designed to suit a wide range of embedded applications with demanding requirements for accuracy in motion sensing and real-time actuation. It is suitable for the most mission-critical applications, especially those requiring highly accurate, long-term stability and low-power operation. The GYPRO2300 provides stability and precision at extreme temperatures from -55°C to +125°C, and is shielded by an EMI/RFI-resistant corrosion-resistant stainless steel case. The unit is also capable of surviving multiple shock events of up to 150g in any axis.

The GYPRO2300 is particularly well-suited for use in aerospace, defense, and commercial applications including munitions control and guidance systems, unmanned underwater vehicles, aircraft autopilots and navigational systems, remote sensing systems, stabilized antenna and radar systems, guidance systems, agricultural mapping, robotic navigation, augmented and virtual reality, submarine sonars, automotive navigation, and automotive chassis control systems.

Working Principle of GYPRO2300

The GYPRO2300 utilizes a unique combination of an advanced micro-machined vibratory gyroscope with signal processing electronics to accurately measure angular rate in three orthogonal axes. The device features a very low noise vibration gyroscope that senses angular velocity through its variable capacitance elements and inertial derived evidence of angular motion. The signal processing electronics converts these signals into voltage-like outputs, providing a very accurate measure of angular rate over a wide temperature range and in the presence of vibration. Additionally, deep signal processing techniques such as signal averaging and filtering are used to provide reliable performance and enhanced motion detection accuracy in the presence of mechanical noise.

The gyroscope is capable of measuring angular rate with a resolution of 0.04°/sec over a dynamic range of ±200°/sec in X, Y, and Z axes. The sensitive element of the gyroscope is produced using MEMS fabrication techniques and is highly resistant to temperature and vibration-induced interference. The signal processing circuitry utilizes a two-stage amplification and integration of the gyroscope outputs for noise reduction and improved performance. The output is refreshed at a rate of 1000 Hz, with integrated temperature compensation that allows for accurate angular motion to be measured in extreme temperatures from -55°C to +125°C. The device also features a wide power supply range of 4.75V to 5.25V.

The GYPRO2300 provides superior accuracy and wide dynamic range in motion sensing for embedded applications. It is a reliable and cost effective solution for mission-critical applications and is suitable for high-precision industrial and automotive applications. With its wide temperature range, low power consumption and miniature package, the unit is ideal for robotics, automotive navigation, and other applications requiring accurate motion sensing.
