H-7 Application Field and Working Principle
Terminal Blocks - Barrier Blocks or H-7 terminal blocks are specially designed electrical components used for the connection and termination of two or more conductors in an electrical circuit. They are an essential part of any industrial, commercial and residential wiring system, providing insulation protection, vibration-proof connections and a reliable way of connecting wires together for safe, efficient and long-lasting electrical installations.
A single H-7 terminal block contains multiple electrical contacts that can be wired together in parallel or in series, depending on the specific requirement. The multiple conductor contacts are commonly held in a steel or plastic housing, and the contacts are insulated from each other to reduce exposure of live electrical connectors. A conductor’s insulation is stripped to expose the bare copper conductor which is then inserted into the appropriate contact on the terminal block.
The number of contacts, their width, spacing, and design (straight or angled), will vary with the specific application. The most common application is for multi-conductor connections such as three conductor wire (three phase power services), three conductor control wire (variable speed controllers), and AC power plugs and sockets.
The purpose of the contact is to allow for the transfer of electrical energy between two or more electrical circuits. In the simplest possible application, a contact is made between a terminal block and a screw connection. The contact is made when the conductor is inserted into the terminal block and tightened down with a screw or nut. This type of connection works as a bridge between the two electrical circuits, allowing for the transfer of electricity between them.
However, when the number of circuits exceeds two, the use of a terminal block becomes necessary in order to properly secure each of the connections between circuits. In this case, the contacts can be soldered onto each of the connection terminals allowing for the efficient and secure transfer of electricity between the terminals. In addition, each of the contacts can be individually soldered onto the appropriate conductor, providing a more secure and insulated connection than soldering the entire connection onto a single terminal.
In applications such as large scale power distribution systems, the use of a barrier block is preferred as it provides the highest level of electrical connection and isolation. The barrier blocks contain two or more terminals which can be used to connect to other conductors in a 4-way junction. This allows for the signal and power wires to cross paths without coming into direct contact, providing additional safety and insulation from electrical shock. This type of connection also allows for higher current loads to be connected, ideal for higher power applications.
Construction of H-7 terminal blocks is simplified by manufacturer design and manufacture specifications. Typically, contact textures, contact spacing and heights are all designed to make the assembly and installation process easier. Additionally, some terminal blocks are designed to accept multiple wires per contact, such as three or four wire cables, which further simplify the process of wiring large systems.
H-7 terminal blocks are suitable for a wide range of applications from small residential and commercial projects to huge industrial plants and automation systems. They are designed to provide reliable, trouble-free power and control connections for many years without any degradation of conductivity. This makes them the ideal choice for any application requiring the secure and efficient transfer of electrical power, from small to medium-sized operations to large-scale industrial projects.
