Optoisolators are components that provide electrical isolation between two circuits. The optoisolator consists of a photodiode or light emitting diode (LED) which is connected to a photo transistor or optoCoupler. An optical signal is sent from the LED to the photo transistor and the output is obtained from the collector-emitter path of the optoCoupler. The optoisolator prevents the transmission of electrical signals across the circuit.

The H11A4SD optoisolator (H11A4SD) is an environmental resistant, cost-effective optoisolator, designed to provide electrical insulation for application in industrial electronics, intelligent instrumentation, automotive and pneumatic controls, and flexible electronic patch-panel connectors. It is a small but powerful device that provides a high degree of electrical isolation between two circuits. The H11A4SD is available as two-terminal (TTO) and four-terminal (FTTO) versions.

The two-terminal version (TTO) has a tri-state Photovoltaic output. This means that the output will either be ON, OFF or PULSED (only when the light source is turned on). The output voltage range is 0 to 5V. The four-terminal version (FTTO) has an open collector Photo-transistor output. This means that the output will be either ON or OFF and the output voltage is 0 to 30V.

The working principle of the H11A4SD optoisolator is simple. The LED emits a light signal when activated. This signal is picked up by the photodiode or photo-transistor inside the optoisolator and converted into an electrical signal. This electric signal is then applied to the load. The level of the electrical signal depends on the intensity of the optical signal, and also the circuit design. The electrical signal is then filtered by the output filter circuit inside the optoisolator and is then applied to the load, thus providing electrical insulation.
