Optoisolators are devices that use optical signals to enable electrical isolation between two circuits. The H11AA1M is an optoisolator that provides isolation between input and output signals using a transistor, photovoltaic output.

This optoisolator can switch electrical signals which are carried through two unpowered terminals. It contains an infrared LED which is referred to as the input and a phototransistor or phototriac which is the output device which operates when the LED is energized.

The H11AA1M optoisolator contains two separate components which are encased within a plastic housing to protect them from outside interference and tampering. The input component is a infrared LED which emits light when a voltage is applied to it. The output component is a phototransistor or phototriac which turns on or off when the infrared LED emits light or does not emit light respectively.

When the infrared LED is illuminated due to an input voltage being applied, the phototransistor or phototriac is turned on, creating a voltage output across its terminals. When the voltage input is no longer present, the LED is no longer illuminated and the phototransistor or phototriac is turned off, preventing any further voltage outputs from occurring.

The H11AA1M optoisolator is ideal for input signals circuits requiring low to medium current and voltage levels such as digital circuits and microcontrollers. It offers complete electrical isolation between input and output signals which helps prevent noise interference, overloading of the input circuits, and damage due to voltage differences which can occur between two terminals.
