Optoisolators - Transistor, Photovoltaic OutputAn optoisolator, or optocoupler, is a device designed to transmit an input signal between two isolated systems while protecting the driver and the controlled circuit from each other.The H11A817 optoisolator is a four-pin transmissive optocoupler consisting of an infrared LED emitter and a photovoltaic (PV) output. This device uses a transistor output to detect an input pulse and is suitable for applications such as pulse-width-modulation (PWM) control and frequency divider applications. The H11A817 optocoupler works on the principle of photocoupling. In this device, the input signal is transmitted from one circuit to the other across an air gap through the use of light. The output of the optocoupler depends on the input intensity. When the LED on the is illuminated by the input, it causes a current to flow through the photoconductor also known as the photovoltaic cell, generating a voltage across the cathode and anode of the output transistor. In terms of its application field, the H11A817 optoisolator is used for interfacing control circuits such as microcontrollers operating at voltages as high as 40 volts with power switching circuits. Additionally, the optocoupler works as a gate between high-efficiency and low-efficiency power switching systems.The device has an isolation voltage of up to 3500V between the input and output circuits. This ensures a high level of safety and prevents the driver and the controlled circuit from shorting out. It is said to have a fast switching speed and can achieve transmission and reception rates of up to 3.5 MHz at a switching current of 10mA.In order to ensure reliable operation, the H11A817 optocoupler should be connected to circuits with similar working voltages.
