An optoisolator, also known as an optocoupler, optical isolator, photocoupler, optiched, or photoMOS, is a type of semiconductor device that provides electrical isolation between multiple circuits. The H11AA1S(TA) is a photovoltaic output optoisolator. It uses a photovoltaic inner gate to provide a normally-open (NO) output.

The H11AA1S(TA) is a drop-in replacement for other optoisolators, including the HEF5157C6(T)x, HEF5157C6(T)-GU, HCF5157C7(T), 374-1T, and H11AA1(S). It is single channel and comes in four packages: a two-lead plastic SOT-23, a five-lead plastic SOT-23, an eight-lead TO-126, and an MTV-18. It is used in a variety of applications, such as electrical isolation, isolated switches and relays, motor and sensing control, and power conversion.

The H11AA1S(TA) works according to the principles of photoconductivity. A photon of light from the emitter diode creates an electron-hole pair in the base of the phototransistor. This creates a forward voltage across the circuit, allowing current to flow from the emitter to the collector. When the emitter is turned off, the diode becomes reverse biased and the current ceases to flow. This creates an open circuit and the output remains low.

The H11AA1S(TA) has a wide range of advantages over conventional optoisolators. It has a phototransistor output which eliminates the need for a second transistor in the circuit. It has a wide operating range from -55°C to +125°C and a fast response time of 5ns. It also has a low forward voltage of 0.97V and a high off-state current of 30µA. Additionally, it has an isolation voltage of 50V and a dielectric strength of at least 5KV.
