HCPL-0720-000E is a logic output optoisolator. An optoisolator, or a coupler, is a component that provides electrical isolation between two electrically separate circuits. Optoisolators limit the transfer of unwanted electrical electricity interference between circuits by using an optical coupling. The HCPL-0720-000E is capable of isolating and maintaining high resistive isolation of 5000 V rms for 1 minute test time.The HCPL-0720-000E has an Optocoupler integrated chip which consists of a light-emitting diode that emits invisible infrared light, a phototransistor, two resistors, a capacitor and a zener diode. The light-emitting diode is connected to an input circuit and the phototransistor is connected to an output circuit with a protective circuit in between them. When a signal is sent to the input side through the input terminals, the LED emits infrared light which is received by the phototransistor. This then triggers a voltage between the collector and the emitter of the phototransistor in the same diode and induces a current to flow in the output circuit.The HCPL-0720-000E is ideal for use in logic output isolation applications such as performing logic isolation in a light controller, motor control systems, PLC (Programmable Logic Controller), power supplies, relays, and relays switches.
