High-speed CMOS optocoupler, commonly known as HCPL-J314, is an advanced technology light-coupled optoelectrical component developed and manufactured by Avago Technologies. It is designed to connect various signal isolation applications where standard optoelectrical components cannot meet the requirements. The HCPL-J314 is an 8-pin DIP package optocoupler with type "A" photodiode input, high frequency control logic output, and supply voltage up to 24V. It functions as an optoelectronic isolator and is commonly used as an isolator between signal circuits and control circuits, or between low voltage circuits and high voltage circuits. It can increase the maximum withstand voltage, improve system reliability, and reduce the effect of interference signal between its two sides. As it is a standard part of many circuit designs, its properties and ratings enable it to be used in many different fields including electric apparatus, precision instrument, automation equipment, military, and metallurgy.
The HCPL-J314 is essentially composed of three elements, a LED, a photodiode, and a CMOS output. The LED is used to sense input signal, and the photodiode is connected to the comparison logic circuit to convert the received optical signals into electrical signals so that the output is converted into various control instructions. The CMOS output is used to drive the external load. Under normal conditions, the LED and CMOS output stages are diode connected, resulting in a low input threshold voltage.
