The HCPL2631SD belongs to the class of optoisolators known as logic output. It has been designed and created by Avago Technologies to provide galvanic isolation between two circuits. It functions through the use of an LED coupled on one side with an integrated-photo detector on the other. This isolated opto-coupler can carry out electrical isolation of up to 1500V DC.The HCPL2631SD incorporates an optically coupled gate drive circuit to produce a high current drive through opto-coupling. This high current loading, combined with the fast switching speed, makes the logic output ideal for use in industrial as well as medical applications.The HCPL2631SD device is an open collector logic output opto-coupler. It has been designed to provide direct drive for small signal switching transistors or high power MOSFET’s. It is a single channel device and has latch-up immunity. The propagation delay time of this device is less than 40ns. The current transfer ratio (CTR) of this device ranges from 80% to 600%, depending upon the supply voltage and load conditions.The HCPL2631SD functions through the process of internal photo-coupling. It couples a low voltage, high frequency electrical signal from one circuit to another, through the use of optical data transmission. This data transmission creates an electrical signal, to drive the transfer of data in its transfer substrate. The internal LED is high in intensity, and it produces a modulated optical beam which is transmitted across the gap between the two circuits. This beam is then detected by the internal photo detector, a process which produces a high voltage level shift in the output stage. The gate drive circuit is composed of an optically coupled input and output driver stages.The HCPL2631SD has a wide range of applications in industrial as well as medical areas. It is used in motor control circuitry, electro-mechanical relays, and isolated conduction switches. It is well suited for use in applications requiring electrical and thermal protection in harsh environments.The HCPL2631SD optoisolator is a versatile device with a number of features.
