HCTL-1101 is a flexible, low-cost, high-performance Programmable Motor Controller IC (PMIC) well-suited for both cost-sensitive and high-performance digital motor control applications. This IC integrates both motor driver and motion controller capability in a single IC, enabling complete control of both motor speed and position with the highest accuracy and precision. This IC is well-suited for applications such as brushless DC motor control, stepper motor control, and AC motor control.HCTL-1101\'s motor control capability is based on its Motion Programmer, which is an on-chip programmable motion controller that implements a motion control algorithm specifically designed for motor control applications. The motion controller will generate PWM outputs at a programmable frequency and duty cycle, which enables precise control of motor speed and or pulse frequency, or a combination of both. The PWM outputs are integrated into the silicon and can be used to drive either a mechanical or electronic switch, enabling the user to control both the direction and speed of the motor with a single chip. The Motion Programmer also supports encoder inputs, allowing the user to control motor position as well as speed.The on-chip power MOSFET driver in HCTL-1101 is capable of driving up to 2 Amps of continuous current, enabling fast and efficient switching of the motor\'s power and direction. This integrated driver also supports external braking (D-channel FET) for more precise control. HCTL-1101 supports a wide range of motor types, such as brushless DC, brushless AC, stepper, and even mechanically coupled DC motors, making it suitable for a wide range of digital motor control applications.HCTL-1101 also features on-chip flash memory, enabling the user to store motor control programs in on-chip memory for quick execution. The on-chip flash memory also supports multiple programs with different control algorithms for more sophisticated control schemes. Additionally, HCTL-1101 integrates dedicated hardware for position control, providing up to a 1000-pulse per revolution resolution when controlling brushless DC motors. This hardware support greatly simplifies the implementation of position control applications. The IC also integrates an on-chip temperature sensor, allowing the user to monitor the temperature of the chip and ensuring robust and reliable operation. The temperature information can also be used to provide over-temperature protection, ensuring the safety and reliability of the motor control system. The Ability to monitor and protect the IC against high temperature is especially key in applications where the motor control IC runs in close proximity to the motor, such as in remote-control vehicles.Finally, HCTL-1101 is designed for flexible and easy SSI/SPI programming. The on-chip SSI/SPI multiplexing circuitry allows any of the available pins to be used as SSI/SPI inputs, eliminating the need for costly level-shifting between SSI/SPI and the motor control interface. This flexible design also allows the user to rapidly develop motor control applications without the need for complex and costly development tools.HCTL-1101 is thus an ideal choice for a wide range of digital motor control applications.
