HDSM-283B

HDSM283B is a character and numeric LED display module designed for displaying ASCII characters and numbers in alphanumeric form. It is a reliable and user-friendly device, providing an easy to use LED character display solution with a variety of applications. It can be used for data logging, real-time monitoring, bar-coding, debugging and message displays.

The HDSM283B employs a Micro-D 9pin connector for external connection and the module is powered by the external power supply. The character size is 8x8 dots and the user can choose maximum of 10 characters to display. All characters are configured using software commands via the External Interface. The integrated character set contains the standard ASCII character set and can also be used to display custom or downloaded characters.

The display unit consists of a single 8 bit register (128 bits) to be used for display output. This is accessed via 3 pins on the external interface. The register store a series of 8-dot info matrix format and this is used to build up characters and dots of different sizes and shapes. The HDSM283B is designed with multiple controllers to ensure that the display data is output in the correct position.

The display module utilizes an embedded software program to control the Character ROMs contents and frame rate for each character. The ROMs can be pre-programmed or downloaded from the external interface and programmed at any time. The ROMs contents can also be dynamically changed depending on the user’s requirements. The cascading control enables up to 4 cascaded displays to be connected in a chain, allowing up to 40 characters to be displayed in total.

The 5V two-wire power source provides a power backup for the HDSM283B. This ensures that the display module will not be disrupted if power losses occur. The Dual-wire power also allows for easy replacement of the module should failure occur. The user can connect up to 10 devices on a single module and inter-module communication is possible through the built in communication protocol. The external interface provides bidirectional data transfer capability between the devices. This enables the user to easily access the display data remotely and control the display devices from a PC. The external interface also provides feedback information such as errors or device status to alert the user as to any potential problems. The HDSM283B display module is also equipped with an easy to use diagnostics tool which enables quick and easy troubleshooting of any display issues.
