## PMIC - AC DC Converters, Offline SwitchersThe HF920GS is an AC/DC offline switcher designed for continuous conduction modulation (CCM) and used for LED lighting and other general purpose standby applications. It typically operates in flyback topology and offers a high efficiency of up to 95%. The device is particularly suitable for cost-sensitive applications. The device features a standalone offline switcher IC and requires few external components. It can support wide input voltage range of 85-265VAC and offers built-in protections functions which includes OCP, OVP and OTP. Its wide input voltage range and minimal component counts makes it suitable for universal AC line applications. The device has a boost diode integrated on-die for high-efficiency for AC input voltages range of 85-265VAC. It also has an integrated 650V minus driver increases maximal efficiency.The HF920GS is designed to meet international safety regulations such as EN60950-1. It also features high electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and extreme low-radiated emission. Further, the device has over-temperature protection and cycle-by-cycle current limit providing high reliability and low system cost. The HF920GS regulates output voltage under various switching frequency such as 150kHz, 250 kHz and 330 kHz. With high-efficiency and low EMI, this device can meet the requirements of LED lighting applications. ## Working PrincipleThe input power of the AC/DC offline switcher is transferred to a transformer, which can step up the voltage or down voltage based on the transformation ratio of transformer. The output AC is rectified and converted to High Voltage DC to supply the power of the device. Then the High voltage DC will be converted to the correct voltage with the help of resonance capacitors and inductance. In addition to regulating the output voltage, the offline switcher chip senses the output current and cut-off when the current overloads.The HF920GS integrates one MOSFET and flyback diode together with several protection circuits. It provides a flexible primary side PWM control scheme for both CCM and DCM operation that for maximum efficiency. In summary, HF920GS is a convenient and economic solution for LED lighting and other general purpose standby applications. It features low standby power, high-efficiency and minimal components.
