Evaluation Boards – Analog to Digital Converters (ADCs) have become a widely used tool for measuring, monitoring, and circuit development. The HI5662EVAL2 evaluation board from Intersil provides analog-to-digital conversion for multiple signal sources. It is a single-channel, low-power, 12-bit A/D converter capable of sampling up to 250 MSPS (megabytes per second). The board is Plug-and-Play friendly, allowing users to quickly set-up and use the product without the need for complex programming.
Various applications make use of a high-speed sampling A/D converter. These application fields include communications systems, wireless monitoring systems, Automotive camera systems, medical imaging and instrumentation, and military and aerospace applications.
The HI5662EVAL2 board can take many types of analog input signals including Process Control, Frequency Control, Target Tracking, Temperature Control, and Video. These various types of analog inputs can be converted to digital format for further processing and/or analysis.
The HI5662EVAL2 evaluation board can be used in both single-ended and differential signal modes. The board features a user-friendly GUI that enables a user to easily set up and control the board. Additionally, the GUI provides easy access to register settings and live data viewing capabilities.
In terms of working principle, the board takes analogue input signals and converts them to 12-bit digital code by using a high speed CMOS sample-and-hold, an ADC, and digital control logic. The ADC operates at a maximum conversion rate of 250 MS/s and has an integrated reference voltage buffer. The ADC has a built-in programmable gain stage and adjustable signal bandwidth.
The HI5662ADC Evaluation Board supports various signal sources. It includes circuitry for single-ended input, differential input, and RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) inputs. The board provides an on-chip programmable gain control of on-chip gain amplifiers and an adjustable low-pass filter (LPF) with tilt control for better rejection of noise and interference. Additionally, the board supports data output over LVDS, SPI, and JESD204B serial interface options.
Furthermore, the board includes a low jitter clock oscillator and LVDS output for interfacing with LVDS enabled devices. This ensures a high level of accuracy and precision for the data output over the serial interfaces. The LVDS outputs support data words length up to 32 bits. The National Instruments cRIO interface provides a reliable data transfer option for the board.
The HI5662ADC evaluation board provides an easy to use environment for testing, tuning, and troubleshooting various applications. It combines the benefits of a high-performance 12-bit A/D converter with the flexibility of multiple analog input options, adjustable gains, and adjustable filtering that can be easily changed with the onboard GUI. This makes it easy to evaluate and optimize designs in the lab or in the field.
