The HI5762EVAL2 evaluation board is an analog-to-digital converter (ADC) that enables users to quickly evaluate ADC performance and features. This evaluation board contains a HI5762 sampling ADC and its peripheral circuitry. The evaluation board is ideal for applications such as audio, video, biomedical, and instrumentation signals. It supports typical low voltage operation and analog inputs up to 3.0V.

The HI5762 sampling ADC has a PSRR of 64dB. It is a low power, low noise, 12-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter that is designed to simplify the task of acoustic system design. It provides low power consumption, excellent SNR, linearity and THD+N performance with a wide input frequency range from 0 Hz to 3.2 GHz.

The HI5762 has differential analog inputs with a 1.5V common mode voltage. The analog input range is from 0.2Vrr to 3.0Vrr. The ADC operates from a 2.5V to 3.3V voltage supply and has a low dynamic power consumption of 1.5 mW/MSPS. It supports SPI, Quad and JTAG programming interfaces. The ADC has a maximum frequency of 1.6 MSPS and a maximum resolution of 12 bits.

The HI5762 is a sampling ADC which means that it uses a sample and hold technique to sample the incoming analog signal and then converts it to a digital signal. This process is accompanied by a few important stages such as Gain and Offset Calibration, Sample and Hold, Multiplier, D/A converter and Comparator.

The first stage of the data conversion is the Gain and Offset Calibration. This stage sets the reference voltage level and corrects for variations of the reference voltage. Then the Sample and Hold stage captures the input signal and holds it over a certain amount of time. The sample and hold stage also includes the Track/Hold which performs the task of capturing the signal in the transition region.

The next stage is the Multiplier where the signal is integrated or ramped up and is then converted to a digital value. The converted digital output is then translated into a D/A signal. The D/A converter is used to digitize the analog signal as it runs through the multiplier and is then fed into the comparator.

The comparator is used to compare the D/A output, to predetermined reference voltages which will provide the chance to select which reference voltage is closest to the D/A output. If the voltage is higher than the reference voltage, the ADC will output a binary one and a binary zero if the voltage is lower. This is done multiple times until the complete conversion is done.

The HI5762EVAL2 evaluation board is designed to give customers the ability to evaluate performance and features of the HI5762 sampling ADC. Its wide input frequency range from 0 Hz to 3.2 GHz, low voltage operation and excellent SNR, linearity and THD+N performance makes it ideal for applications such as audio, video, biomedical and instrumentation signals.
