The HLMP-3680 by AVAGO is a discrete, 5.6mm x 5.27mm, bi-level LED for low current applications. It offers 3 performance categories of 20mA, 25mA and 30mA respectively, with an operating temperature range of -40°C to +100°C. It can visibly adapt signals from 10mcd to 3000mcd allow more flexibility for a variety of applications.

This LED is mainly used in aviation and aerospace applications where low currents and secure operation are required. It is ideal for use in instrument panel lighting, warning lights and control lights, circuit boards, and signaling devices. Its robust design offers resistance to shock, vibration and chemical attack, making it perfect for extreme environments. It offers dual base or dual shorting pins design and can be fit into standard through-hole mounting or right angle access circuits.

HLMP-3680 also comes with colorless lensing which helps to provide higher luminous intensities while exhibiting superior viewing angle characteristics. It has a wide viewing angle up to 140 degrees and specialized power system design which allows more efficient heat dissipation. The low-profile outline and robust lens rim ensure the reliability necessary for industrial environments and the integrated current limiting mechanisms provide excellent high temperature performance. The UL 94V-0 flammability rating guarantees its excellent fire safety.

The HLMP-3680’s working principle relies on generating light from semi-conductor materials. When a diode is electrically forward biased (switched on), electrons are able to recombine with holes(electrical charges) within the device, releasing energy in the form of photons. This kinetic energy of the released photons is the visible light seen when the diode is lit. The specific wavelength of the visible light varies depending on the materials used in the diode.
