Fixed inductors are components used to add inductance or impedance to electrical circuits. They are made up of two or more windings around a common core material. The core material can range from a simple iron or ferrite core to a more complex magnetic alloy. Some designs use powdered iron in place of an air gap. Other designs may use a non-magnetic material such as copper or aluminium as a core. The most common types of fixed inductors available today are surface-mount (SMT), through-hole (THT) and axial.

HM62-26103R3MLFTR is a unique miniaturized fixed inductor which is designed to meet the smart application field of medical equipment, communications, satellites, aerospace and military. The device is integrated with a significant advantage of wide surge current and low DCR capability of 1.05 mΩ. This fixed inductor also exhibits an optimized electro-magnetic field for higher operating frequencies. The HM62-26103R3MLFTR has an impressive current range of up to 5A with an inductance range from 1.6µH to 330µH and is used in medical application circuits where high efficiency and high surge current are needed. The design of the device is based on a unique combination of magnetic materials along with an optimized winding process.

The construction of the HM62-26103R3MLFTR comprises of two high saturation ferrite cores and two copper windings, making the device highly efficient. The ferrite core provides a strong magnetic field to add the inductance necessary to a specific electrical circuit. The core is formed by wrapping two different copper windings of a given length in opposite directions around the core. The windings are insulated, which prevents them from shorting out one another in the magnetic field.

The working principle of the HM62-26103R3MLFTR is based on the principle of electromagnetic induction. When alternating current (AC) energy flows through the winding in one direction, a magnetic field is generated which induces a voltage in the opposite winding. This induced voltage generates an opposing current in the second winding. This opposing current is then attracted to the magnetic field, creating a back electromagnetic force that reduces the voltage in the first winding that created it.

As a result of this process, the HM62-26103R3MLFTR can regulate the current flow in a circuit, create the required electrical impedance, or filter circuits from low frequency to high frequency signals.
