The HMAA2705R2 optically coupled isolator combines a gallium arsenide LED and an integrated phototransistor detector. It is configured as a transistor, photovoltaic output optic coupling isolator. This isolator is commonly used in applications in which electrical currents and voltages need to be isolated from one another. The isolation is typically required to allow for safe and reliable functioning of the device, to avoid inter-circuit contamination, and/or signal interference.

This optically isolated device uses the physical properties of light for eventually for switching an electrical load circuit when triggered by an electrical input circuit. When the input watts are between 5 and 30 millivolts, the LED emits infrared light.
